She also was on the writing team of the Jewish Theological Seminary, and the AVI CHAI Foundation's Standards and Benchmark project for the teaching of Tanakh. Tanchel has published articles in academic and practitioner's journals on the teaching of biblical texts in pluralistic settings. She was the head of the Tanakh Department before serving as Associate Head of School prior to coming to JCDS.ĭr. Tanchel was a founding faculty member at Gann Academy, and taught there for fourteen years. Tanchel has also taught in various adult education settings, including the Combined Jewish Philanthropy's Genesis Program, Biblical Hebrew and Me'ah at Hebrew College, the Synagogue Council of Massachusetts, and a number of synagogues in the greater Boston area. She has taught in many teacher preparation programs, including the DeLeT program at the Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education and the Masters of Teaching Program in Secondary Education-both at Brandeis University, as well as Melamdim at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. Tanchel brings nearly two decades of educational experience to the JCDS community.
